Backend Engineer (Agentic AI)

Seed-Stage Agentic AI Company • New York City (On-site)
Location
New York City (On-site)
Compensation
$150k–$220k base + competitive equity

About the company

Our client is a seed-stage, venture-backed AI company in New York building agentic AI for enterprise workflows — systems that don't just answer questions but carry multi-step work through to completion. They've raised $4M and are a team of four, working together in person in New York. Joining at this size means the backend architecture is still yours to shape rather than inherit.

The role

You'd own the backend behind the agent platform: the services that plan, execute and recover multi-step agent runs, the data layer they depend on, and the infrastructure that keeps them reliable under real customer load. This is a hands-on build role on a small team — you'll be close to customers, and the distance between a decision and it being live is measured in days.

What you'll do

  • Build and own the backend services powering multi-step agent execution
  • Design the data and orchestration layer behind agentic workflows
  • Take features from design through deployment on AWS and GCP
  • Make the platform reliable and observable as enterprise usage grows
  • Work directly with customers and shape the technical roadmap at seed stage
