About the company

Our client is a San Francisco company building the data layer for audio AI — the high-quality speech datasets that let voice models actually work in noisy, messy, real-world conditions. Founded in 2024, they are around 50 people, have raised $80M, and reached a Series B inside two years, with most of the large US technology companies already on their customer list. The engineering team includes people who previously built large-scale data operations at a leading AI data company.

The role

This is a backend engineering role on a small team where the data pipeline is the product. You would build and scale the services and processing pipelines that turn raw audio into training-grade datasets — high volume, a high quality bar, and a lot of moving parts. The team is deliberately small for the scale it handles, so the work runs all the way from designing a service to owning it in production. It is on-site in San Francisco, and the client is hiring several engineers into this role rather than one.

What you'll do

Build and scale backend services and data-processing pipelines that run in production
Own projects end to end, from design through deployment and day-to-day operation
Work across Python and TypeScript, with Node, PostgreSQL and AWS underneath
Hold quality high at volume — the output is training data, so correctness and consistency are the product
Work in person with a small, senior engineering team on short feedback loops

What we're looking for

I have 2 to 6 years of backend software engineering experience
I have built scalable backend systems or data-processing pipelines that ran in production
I have owned projects end to end and can point to the business impact they had
I am proficient in both Python and TypeScript
I have worked at high-growth, venture-backed startups
My background is not exclusively long tenure at large or legacy companies — I have real startup experience
I have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from a strong program, roughly top 50 in the US or the equivalent in Canada
I can work on-site in San Francisco
I need either no visa sponsorship or only a visa transfer
