Backend Software Engineer
About the company
Our client is a San Francisco company building the data layer for audio AI — the high-quality speech datasets that let voice models actually work in noisy, messy, real-world conditions. Founded in 2024, they are around 50 people, have raised $80M, and reached a Series B inside two years, with most of the large US technology companies already on their customer list. The engineering team includes people who previously built large-scale data operations at a leading AI data company.
The role
This is a backend engineering role on a small team where the data pipeline is the product. You would build and scale the services and processing pipelines that turn raw audio into training-grade datasets — high volume, a high quality bar, and a lot of moving parts. The team is deliberately small for the scale it handles, so the work runs all the way from designing a service to owning it in production. It is on-site in San Francisco, and the client is hiring several engineers into this role rather than one.
What you'll do
- Build and scale backend services and data-processing pipelines that run in production
- Own projects end to end, from design through deployment and day-to-day operation
- Work across Python and TypeScript, with Node, PostgreSQL and AWS underneath
- Hold quality high at volume — the output is training data, so correctness and consistency are the product
- Work in person with a small, senior engineering team on short feedback loops

Submit Your InfoNice to have
- Domain experience in audio, machine learning, or data infrastructure
- Familiarity with Node.js, PostgreSQL or AWS
- Experience building systems where data quality itself is the product
Tech stack
Python and TypeScript are the working languages, with Node.js services, PostgreSQL for storage and AWS underneath. The interesting problems sit in the data-processing pipelines rather than the interface layer.
