About the company

Our client is a seed-stage, venture-backed AI company building an AI-native ERP platform for American defense manufacturers, starting with its finance and accounting modules. They are a small, well-funded team going after the software layer that runs defense manufacturing, and the finance and accounting side is where the product starts.

The role

This is a backend-heavy full-stack seat on a small engineering team, and the work is data modelling as much as it is application code. You would design schemas for genuinely complex financial domains, build the APIs that connect to external HR, payroll and accounting systems, and own features from design through to deployment. The lever on this role is domain fluency: the engineers who do well here can talk to finance and accounting stakeholders in their own language and bring that understanding back into the product.

What you'll do

  • Build backend services in Python and FastAPI against PostgreSQL and GraphQL
  • Model complex financial domains — invoicing, payments and financial reporting
  • Design clean, well-structured APIs, including client-facing ones for external integrations
  • Own features end to end, from design through deployment
  • Work directly with finance and accounting stakeholders and bring domain learning back to the team

Nice to have

  • Experience at an ERP, fintech or accounting-software company
  • Data modelling for invoicing, payments or financial reporting
  • Client-facing API design for HR, payroll or accounting integrations
  • Comfort presenting deep technical topics — the on-site opens with a candidate-chosen technical talk

Tech stack

Python and FastAPI on the backend with PostgreSQL and GraphQL, React on the front end, and Docker and CI/CD around it.

Compensation & logistics

  • $170k–$230k + competitive equity, with flex above the top of the band for an exceptional candidate
  • US-based remote, with quarterly on-site visits; 3 days a week in office if you live in San Diego
  • Must be a US citizen or green card holder — this client cannot sponsor or transfer any visa
  • The on-site includes a technical presentation of your choosing, which is the sharpest filter in the loop
