About the company

Our client is a seed-stage AI infrastructure startup in San Francisco, backed by well-known early-stage investors. It builds the platform that governments, Fortune 500 companies and fast-growing startups use to deploy their own internal AI agents securely and at scale: configurable building blocks such as evals, observability, routing, permissions and sandboxes, across many models and agent frameworks. The team is five people and revenue has grown quickly on the back of large enterprise customers.

The role

You would be one of the first engineers, with real ownership and autonomy. You take a high-level problem, decide the architecture and ship it, working across the full stack with a roughly 70/30 backend focus. You also work directly with customers when it helps, to understand what they need and push a solution through. It suits an engineer with up to five years of experience who has built products end to end at a startup and wants founding-level scope rather than a well-defined ticket queue.

What you'll do

  • Own high-level problem statements end to end, from architecture decisions through implementation
  • Design and build core infrastructure for deploying AI agents: sandboxes, observability, evals and benchmarks
  • Work across the stack, with a Python backend and a TypeScript/Next.js frontend
  • Work with customers when needed to understand requirements and deliver solutions
  • Spot what should be built next and drive product improvements without being asked

Tech stack

Python, TypeScript, Next.js, React, AWS, LLM APIs and tooling (OpenAI API, LangChain, Hugging Face), Prisma, Drizzle, HTTP and WebSockets.

Compensation & logistics

  • $140k–$220k base, plus competitive equity
  • Health, dental and vision insurance, and unlimited PTO
  • Relocation assistance of up to $5k for people moving to San Francisco
  • On-site in San Francisco five days a week — this is not a remote role
  • Open to candidates who need no sponsorship and to visa transfers; the client will not file a new, first-time visa sponsorship
  • Up to 5 years of experience in full-stack, customer-facing software engineering or forward deployed engineering
  • 1 to 2 hires planned
