Founding Engineer

About the company

Our client is a seed-stage San Francisco AI company whose agents run customer activation across text, email, voice and browser for enterprise customers. The team is four people, and two engineers built the entire product — so the next engineer joins with the architecture still open and real enterprise pilots already running.

The role

You would own enterprise AI agent deployments end to end. The hiring manager describes the first ninety days concretely: bugs and platform extensions inside thirty days, a product area by sixty, and a named enterprise account by ninety. Day to day that means tuning agent behaviour across text, email, voice and browser, and carrying live pilots through to signed contracts. This is a customer-facing engineering seat as much as a building one — the job is turning what an enterprise customer asks for into shipped product, fast.

What you'll do

• Own enterprise AI agent deployments end to end, from the first bug fix to a named account
• Fix bugs and extend the platform in your first thirty days, own a product area by sixty, and an enterprise account by ninety
• Tune agent behaviour across text, email, voice and browser channels
• Carry live enterprise pilots through to signed contracts
• Work directly with customers and turn what they ask for into shipped features
• Build and harden the agent harness, tool use and evaluations the product depends on

Nice to have

• Experience at a voice or agent-based customer-experience company, or at a payments company
• Voice or telephony infrastructure experience
• Having worked at a startup between seed and Series D

Tech stack

TypeScript and Python on Postgres, with agent harnesses, tool use and evaluations as the core of the product rather than an add-on, across text, email, voice and browser channels. AI coding tools are expected in the daily workflow rather than tolerated: an engineer who does not use them is a stated concern for this team, and the paid work sample explicitly encourages agentic coding tools.

Compensation & logistics

• $250k–$275k base, plus 1–1.5% equity
• Hybrid in San Francisco, three days a week in SoMa, with relocation offered
• The client is open to visa transfers and to new visa sponsorship
• The client would like you to start by mid-November 2026
• One hire on this role
• Interview process: a 30-minute screen with the CTO, a paid two-hour work sample on a real slice of a customer pilot where agentic coding tools are encouraged, then a half-day in person with the team in San Francisco
