About the company

Our client is a fast-growing voice AI startup in the Bay Area — roughly fifty people, revenue scaled more than ten times over the past year, and backed by Y Combinator. It was founded in 2023 and builds the voice layer that other companies put in front of their customers, so the interface work is the product rather than a wrapper around it.

The role

This is a senior, deliberately React-heavy frontend seat on a team of around seven frontend-focused engineers, reporting directly to the CTO, who is one of the founders. The client is unusually direct about what it is testing for: expert-level React written without AI assistance, checked live in the interviews. They are hiring six people into this team, so this is a build-out rather than a backfill. It is also a demanding schedule by design — the client asks for a 996 pattern, roughly 9am to 9pm six days a week, with Monday to Friday in the Redwood City office and a sixth day worked from home that is mandatory rather than optional. That expectation is stated up front because it is the single thing candidates most often decline on, and it is better known now than at offer stage.

What you'll do

• Build and own production React interfaces as a hands-on senior engineer on a seven-person frontend team
• Write expert-level React without leaning on AI assistance — the client tests this live during the interview loop
• Work in production TypeScript and Node.js across the frontend and its supporting services
• Report directly to the founding CTO, with a short path from decision to shipped code
• Help set the frontend bar as the team grows from roughly seven engineers through six additional hires
• Ship at the pace of a company whose revenue grew more than tenfold in a year

Nice to have

• A background at a well-known technology company — the client names TikTok, Salesforce, Oracle, Coinbase, Postman and NVIDIA as places strong hires have come from, as references rather than requirements
• Experience on a React-heavy AI or developer-tools product
• A degree from a top-50 US university, or an equivalent such as Waterloo internationally
• Experience as an early engineer on a team that grew quickly

Tech stack

React and TypeScript at the centre, with JavaScript, Node.js, HTML and CSS around it. The interview loop is built on the same stack: React-focused coding, then coding plus systems design, then practical debugging and tooling work.

Compensation & logistics

• $200k–$300k base plus competitive equity
• On-site in Redwood City, CA Monday to Friday, plus a mandatory sixth day worked from home
• The client asks for a 996 schedule — roughly 9am to 9pm, six days a week

• Open to candidates who need no sponsorship, to visa transfers, and to new visa sponsorships — the client sponsors H-1B, TN, L-1, E-3, F-1 (OPT and CPT) and O-1
